The NSW Greens plan to increase pressure on the Turnbull Government to try and get a koala conservation area on the Mid North Coast.
Australia should become a powerhouse, an economic super power, for ecological development and tourismJeremy Buckingham, NSW Greens
The Greens Mid North Coast spokesman Jeremy Buckingham said it would also see the end of native vegetation clearing and logging in the area by late 2016.
He said the Great Koala National Park would be a boost for region's eco-tourism.
"The Greens believe that now is the time to act," he said.
"Australia should become a powerhouse, an economic super power, for ecological development and tourism.
"As part of that, we can set aside a comprehensive reserve system to protect the koala.
"That will drive economic development through tourism."
Mr Buckingham said the change of Federal leadership makes this a good time to step-up lobbying for the park.
"With the new Turnbull ministry we will be putting pressure at both State and Federal level on Government to make sure that they recognise how threatened the Koala and other species are on the Coast," he said.
"We need to protect them by putting in place a comprehensive reserve system and the funds to manage it.
