Abbott's plan to slash super: GetUp message

Reblogged from GetUp

Work part-time? Earn less than $37k? Know anyone who does? Today, the Federal Government announced plans to scrap the low-income super concession which means hitting the retirement savings of those who need it most, while giving tax breaks to big mining.

This move will take tens of thousands of dollars from the retirement savings of 3.5 million Australians.

Up until now, the Government would contribute $500 a year to those earning $37,000 or less as a way of helping low-income earners save for retirement. Scrapping this low income super contribution will have a disproportionate impact on women, young people and rural Australians.

The Abbott government has been good at keeping this quiet, and right now, few people even know it's happening or how it could affect their future savings. That's why we've created a shareable version of the above infographic, in order to get the word out.

Will you help spread the word by sharing the facts right now? Click here to share on Facebook, or forward the following link to friends and family: https://www.getup.org.au/superannuation.

If we all join together to spread the truth about at whose expense these "savings" will come, there's still time – ahead of budget – to stop these changes and protect the retirement savings of millions of Australians.

Let's get the facts out there,
the GetUp team
