Erosion management changes rushed: Greens

The New South Wales Government has been accused of attempting to rush through far-reaching changes to coastal management.

The Coalition has not wasted time introducing legislation, after the Resources Minister Chris Hartcher announced new sea level guidelines on the day of local government elections.

Under the changes, statewide sea level planning benchmarks have been dropped and landowners will be given more freedom to protect their properties from erosion.

Greens MP Cate Faehrmann says it will lead to ad-hoc coastal protection measures and it is being done while councils are still in caretaker mode.

"The Government needs to delay this for six months," she said.
