Media Release - 21 June 2012
The Greens are seeking crossbench support for an amendment to the O'Farrell government's changes to the workers compensation scheme which would see firefighters and paramedics receive the same protections as police and other emergency services personnel.
Greens NSW MP David Shoebridge said:
"Firefighters and paramedics work side by side with police, the RFS and SES in dealing with emergencies – they deserve the same level of protection.
"Under the proposed legislation, firefighters and paramedics stand to
have seriously reduced benefits compared to other emergency workers.
"The risks that firefighters and paramedics take on a daily basis are
being ignored by the O'Farrell government.
"The Greens are calling on the government and all parties to support
these basic protections for emergency service workers.
"Of course all workers should have this protection, but we will do all
we can to protect anyone from these harsh attacks on workers
compensation," Mr Shoebridge said.
