A Vatican working group has called for action on climate change.

A Vatican working group has called for action on climate change. A story published in the Catholic News Service quotes a report from the Vatican working group as recommending an immediate reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, the halting of deforestation, and reforestation amongst other strategies. It also recommends helping countries adapt to the environmental and social changes climate change will bring.

In a Catholic News Service article Pope Benedict was said to be vocal about his concern for environmental degradation and as being critical of a lack of real commitment to mitigating climate change.

This is in dramatic contrast to statements by Australian Cardinal Pell that attempts to rein in climate change were 'misdirected'.

Tim Costello is calling on Christians to act on climate change.

"Speaking at the start of a national day of prayer on climate change yesterday, Mr Costello said it was incumbent on Christians to take the problem of global warming seriously, and to battle cynicism and despair."
